Who We Are

First Baptist Church of Wellington was formed in 1976 in a local store-front as a mission work under the umbrella of Haverhill Baptist Church. During the Christmas season of 1977, the church began meeting at the current location on Forest Hill Boulevard. In 1981 First Baptist Church of Wellington was constituted as an autonomous church.

Today we still exist as an autonomous church with the mission of reaching the people of Wellington with the gospel story! We are passionate about reaching people both here and around the world, building community, worshipping our Savior, and seeing people become not just "hearers" of the Word, but "doers" of the Word.

See What We Believe!

Why We Exist

We exist to call men and women to celebrate and be changed by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and His Lordship over all of life - for the good of our city and the world.

In the gospel we meet a God who has acted decisively in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus to redeem and restore people to Himself. Jesus lives the life we could not live, dies the death that we deserve to die, and is raised from the dead and revealed to be the King over all creation. This was no arbitrary event in history; it is the decisive moment. The gospel tells the whole story of Biblical history and how God has acted decisively in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus to redeem the world for His glory. Preaching the gospel means showing how Jesus is the fulfillment and goal of every biblical text.

Our Doctrine

We embrace a fundamentally evangelical and reformed identity and are thus in agreement with historic confessions such as the Nicene Creed, the Second London Baptist Confession, and the Heidelberg Catechism, as well as the affirmations and denials set forth by Together for the Gospel. Our confessional statement is adapted from the foundational documents of the Gospel Coalition (www.thegospelcoalition.org).

For a complete list of our doctrinal beliefs, please contact us and we will be sure to send it to you. If you would like to discuss any of these core beliefs, please contact us at questions@solsticechurch.org.
